Basics |
NAME: Petunia Dursley AGE/BIRTHDAY: 22: January 21st, 1958 BLOOD STATUS: Muggle FORMER HOUSE: None OCCUPATION: Desperate House Wife and Agony Aunt for the local paper. |
Relationships |
FAMILY: Any family of importance who may or may not be making an appearance in-game. Other mentions of importance should be included under history. Lily Potter (née Evans) → Relationship Status would be COMPLICATED at the best of times. While Petunia loves her sister, she is both repelled and curious about Lily’s magic. She has long acknowledged that she will never fully be a part of Lily’s life due to her nonmagical status but that does not mean it doesn’t often cause many problems. Nevertheless, they both attended each other’s weddings and correspond regularly. Also, despite many months apart and a couple not speaking—Petunia knows Lily like the back of her hand. She can, and often does, mark a calendar during their fights for when Lily will finally break. Thomas and Camilla Evans (née Gardner) → For all the spirited arguments their daughters get up to, their parents are surprisingly the laid-back sort. They are both retired schoolteachers with a love of children and learning, inspiring the same in their daughters (even if they won’t admit it). If there’s one thing Lily learned from their parenting, it was the importance of family bonds and keeping that connection in tact, no matter what. SEXUALITY: Heterosexual SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Vernon Dursley: the most normal of normal blokes. CHILDREN:: None Yet. |
Politics |
LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Anti-magic. ROLE IN THE WAR: Home support for Lily Potter and an accidental "Agony Aunt" for those involved in the conflict. Muggle writing instrauments to be used only. POLITICAL VIEWS: If asked Petunia would likely say she is all for the separation of muggles and magical communities—with one exception which is, of course, her sister. She has no love for wizards. She doesn’t like how rude they are when they find out the wonderful Lily Potter has a sister who can’t make a page turn much less charm something. She doesn’t like their snooty attitudes over it, or how loud they are. She doesn’t care for werewolves or vampires—and she does not care for you. She doesn’t know what that half-blood crap is about but she hates everyone who ever called Lily a bad name because half her family was “muggle”—whatever the hell that was. Her political views can be summarized as Separatist-with-exceptions and burning dislike for most wizards. |
Appearance |
APPEARANCE: Petunia has only one thing in common with her sister. She is thin and leggy. Outside this distinction they may as well be night and day. Her face is a rock, her hands stay by her sides or clasped. She is straight lined and, in a strange way graceful in a purposeful sort of way. She was born blond but recently, in an effort to spice up her day, she dyed her hair brown. She rather likes it, if she’s being honest, though she often will say she does not. Another thing she would claim to be is plain. While it is true Petunia would never win a beauty contest, she is not an ugly woman. |
Personality |
| WAND: None. She always wanted a thick Cherry wood wand with unicorn hair, though. BOGGART: Her entire family dead. Lily (even that Potter bastard, if she’s being honest), her parents, Vernon, and her unborn child. It doesn’t even have to be graphic—just the tombstones. PATRONUS: None. If she did have one, though, it would likely be a plan looking horse because she always liked how sturdy horses seemed. She would have used the memory of Lily giving her a small fishbowl with a flower in it that turned into a fish because although it scared the bejesus out of her it was so pretty and, inevitably, a sweet harmless bit of magic that she was quite beside herself for some time. (She covets that damn thing, though she often tries to feed the magical fish that does not need it. She does not know that Lily also gave a teacher one.) Keep the game's premise in mind while filling out the areas below. Strengths and weaknesses can include anything from things like cooking, charms, and allergies to what gets under their skin most of all. LIKES: Cleanliness, Order, Safety, and Strawberries. She is also a covert and rabid Abba fan and an avid gardener. DISLIKES: Magic, magic, magic, James Potter, Severus Snape (that awful boy!), Albus Dumbledore, All of Lily’s friends, the color black, Chocolate cake, fireplace calls, owls, magic books, and those bag boys at the grocery store. STRENGTHS: She can dust, mop, broom, cook, and garden. She was particularly good at Science and Math in school. She is also an award winning gossip, letter writer, and catalog orderer. WEAKNESSES: Magic, dealing with magic, adjusting to sudden magic—adjusting to sudden anything, really. She doesn’t like any sort of surprise. Smiling. Relenting. Being polite to wizards. KNOWN INFORMATION: Petunia is vocal about her dislike of magic and magical persons—if she knows that the person involved is a wizard. There is no point, to her, to hide it and no reason for her to have to explain it. Magic is scary and bad and it took away her sister, in a way. She has a grudge and does not try to hide it. It is likely that many of Lily’s friends have met Petunia or know of her. She comes off cold, stiff, and abrasive. She wants them out of her and Lily’s life as soon as possible. However, if she warms up to you—she is still a bit abrasive but it also becomes very apparent that she could very well smother people with love/affection or a pillow while also being just about the biggest gossip on Privet Drive. DETAILED PERSONALITY: If Lily is a Norwegian Ridgeback, Petunia is a Romanian Longhorn. A tall, straight lined woman, she is stiff, sometimes abrasive seeming, personality. She also prefers to gore her prey with words before attempting to roast it. Short and sweet, Petunia likes things the way she likes them and does not like surprise or change. This makes her resistant to magic, even Lily’s, because much of the magic is surprising, flashy, and jarring. If startled she is likely to go straight for the kill—as much as she can with words and stiff, cold shoulders. In truth, many meeting her would say she is proper, a clean woman, who is straight forward. A person who knows her a little would call her a gossip and perhaps a little cold: and she likely wouldn’t argue with that. Someone like Lily or a long term friend would likely see her as a woman with few smiles but who is surprisingly caring. While Petunia would happily smother James to death(or roast him, as the case may be), she is just as likely to smother Lily with affection. She is not one for adventures, or other such nonsense, but instead thrives on the day to day, letter writing, and feeling smug thoughts about having her child before Lily. The latter is not something she is proud of. On magic, Petunia is always conflicted about herself, her sister, and magic. This is a theme that has been a part of her life since Lily was very small. On the one hand she is endlessly devoted to her little sister. On the other she is constantly repelled by the idea of magic, which she finds frightening, and the negativity she still feels for being rejected by the Headmaster at Hogwarts. Magic is, and will always, keep her apart from someone she cares for deeply and so she resents it, and everyone in the magic world, almost as much as she loves Lily. This gets even more emotionally complicated because she sometimes, secretly, romanticizes what being a wizard must be like before she realizes what she’s doing and buries those ideas away again. Petunia is like a magnet--both attracted and seriously repelled by the concept of magic in the world. This combination makes her ideal for an Agony Aunt. In her letters she pulls very few punches, but always has the best intentions. |
History |
The story of Petunia Evan’s childhood can be summarized in a story. Petunia was a clean child with thin fingers and boney knees and she had a little sister who was extraordinary. Even when she was five and Lily was three she could have told you that with no little amount of childish snooty pride. She had always been a plain child and Lily had always had a way of being a star. She was momma’s helper but Lily was the child who drew everyone else’s eyes. She should have been jealous, but she was not. When she was ten and Lily was eight they went to a park surrounded by woods. They ran ahead of their parents and happened upon a large rock next to a small stream. Lily wanted to climb the rock but Petunia was afraid. It was tall, Lily could fall, and she wasn’t very good at climbing. Plus it would get them muddy. Lily did it anyway. She also fell but instead of tumbling she floated down into the stream. Petunia had learned that that was impossible because of gravity and this meant her sister was special. But it also meant she was frightening. Things like that were warning signs but Petunia lays the blame squarely on Severus Snape. He was a rude, awful, boy who was clearly there to drag her sister away into dangerous things. He succeeded and when she was rejected by Dumbledore Petunia realized she was never going to be able to be where her sister was again and spent the rest of her It was not fair and it was not Lily’s fault but as she grew up Petunia realized a number of things. Lily and her were very different. Lily would have adventures like in the books she used to read under the covers at night. Lily was beautiful and would likely marry someone amazing and dashing and magical (well, James had a few of these qualities—it was a shame the rest of him was so obnoxious she would rather him die in a fire in questionable circumstances). Lily was also too smart for her own good so she would do amazing things. Petunia was good at math and science but she was not the sort for college. Instead, she met Vernon Dursley —a more average than average football player two years older than her (though he was mostly on the sidelines, poor dear)—and put all her eggs in the basket she was given. She would get married, become a house wife, have darling children and that would be the end of that. Lily could have her adventures and her magic—Petunia would simply do exactly what was in store for her gracefully. And so she did. Three months after her eighteenth birthday she was married. She worked at a diner while Vernon went on to college and then quit the moment he landed a job. Currently Petunia is a housewife with a spotless record of cleanliness and organization. Two months pregnant she spends most of her day in the garden or cleaning. Both often end with her covertly belting into handles Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) and Dancing Queen. She’s a 22 year old housewife: not dead. |
Misc |
FIVE THINGS: Five things you've always wanted to RP out/explore about this character but have never gotten the chance to do before, why you picked this character, things you're most looking forward to playing out with this character, etc. Try to include at least one plot idea for your character. Providing this information helps the mod and other players build plots around your character. • Petunia does not trust those bloody journal things(she got one from Lily ages ago--its in the back of her closet). They’re full of nasty magic and nasty magical freaks. Proper muggle postage letters only, please.—this is a player who will not be commenting in journals. She has no interested in any of you, thank you very much, so she can only really be played with through threading OR letters. • Speaking of letters. Petunia is an Agony Aunt! I don’t care how your character got her mailing information but you can write to Auntie Petuny about all your woes and she will cut you down and give you the information you need. • Petunia is 22. She’s not dead. She’s not yet the woman from the books. She’s a secrete romantic. People can abuse this if they decide to pop into her hometown sometime. (Though unlikely) • Everyone needs family support—even if it’s on and off again like Lily and Petunia. • Pawn for Death Eaters, though she might spit in their faces. STRANDED: Just being stranded would make Petunia beg for something to END RIGHT NOW. There is no way to CLEAN a island properly. There is no way to ORDER an island properly. She probably didn’t even pack enough sun block, thank you very much. Nevertheless, she would bring her sisters magical fish, some postage, and a frying pan. Maybe she could eat the fish over and over again until help arrived. Depending on the day she would want to be stranded with either Vernon or Lily. Being stranded with James, Severus, or Sirius would make her life hell. |
Samples |
Samples from previous games and for different characters are totally fine. Samples also do not have to be submitted again after you've already been accepted to the game. However, if you'd like to go ahead and write a journal entry, the game will be starting December 11th of 1978 (the Marauders have just left school that summer). While what happens during the characters' school years is canon, the events that follow are to be determined by players. Right now in the game all the events are falling into place for the main plot to begin with Regulus turning information over to the Order about the Horcruxes instead of being killed attempting to destroy the locket. JOURNAL ENTRY: First person. You can find more information about journals here. RP SAMPLE: Third person, past tense. |
